Frequently asked questions
Clear answers about insurance, Medicare, self-pay virtual urgent care, and whether CuraNow Health is the right place to start.
Insurance coverage
Which insurance plans does CuraNow Health accept?
CuraNow Health participates with select plans from Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and Original Medicare Part B. Participation and coverage can vary by plan, network, service, and eligibility, so please verify your benefits before your visit.
Is Blue Shield of California accepted?
Blue Shield of California credentialing is in progress. CuraNow Health is not in-network with Blue Shield of California unless and until participation is confirmed.
How much will I pay if I use insurance?
Your cost depends on your individual insurance plan and benefits. Depending on your coverage, you may be responsible for a copayment, deductible, coinsurance, or other applicable patient responsibility. CuraNow Health cannot guarantee the amount an insurance company will apply to your responsibility until the claim is processed.
Can I use an HSA or FSA for the $39 self-pay visit?
Eligible healthcare expenses may generally be paid using Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds, subject to your individual plan's rules. Please contact your HSA or FSA administrator if you have questions regarding eligibility.
Medicare
Do you accept Medicare?
CuraNow Health accepts Original Medicare Part B for eligible covered services. Medicare Advantage coverage is not assumed; please confirm that CuraNow Health is in-network with your specific Medicare Advantage plan before scheduling.
Do you accept Medicare Advantage?
CuraNow Health is currently participating with Original Medicare Part B. Medicare Advantage participation varies by health plan and is not currently included unless specifically confirmed. If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, please verify participation before scheduling an insurance-billed visit.
Will Medicare cover every CuraNow Health service?
Coverage depends on the service, medical necessity, your benefits, and applicable Medicare rules. Services, coordination, prescriptions, labs, imaging, and third-party charges may have separate coverage or costs.
Do you accept Medi-Cal?
CuraNow Health is not currently accepting Medi-Cal unless specifically stated otherwise. We are working to expand access and may add additional health plans in the future. Please check our website for updates regarding participating insurance plans.
Self-pay virtual urgent care
How much is a visit if I don't have insurance?
CuraNow Health offers a simple $39 self-pay option for virtual urgent-care visits. You may choose self-pay when applicable rather than using insurance. The $39 fee covers the CuraNow Health virtual professional visit. Prescription medications, laboratory testing, imaging, and services provided by other healthcare organizations are not included.
Can I choose the $39 self-pay option instead of using my insurance?
CuraNow Health offers a $39 self-pay option for eligible services. However, whether self-pay may be used instead of insurance can depend on your insurance coverage, applicable payer contracts, and federal or state program requirements. Please select the appropriate payment option when scheduling or contact CuraNow Health if you have questions.
Is the $39 self-pay price the same as my insurance copay?
No. The $39 self-pay price is CuraNow Health's direct-pay rate for eligible virtual urgent-care services. If you choose to use insurance, your financial responsibility is determined by your insurance plan and may be more or less than $39.
What if my insurance is not accepted?
You may still be eligible to receive care using CuraNow Health's $39 self-pay virtual urgent-care option. Choosing self-pay does not guarantee reimbursement from your insurance company.
Are prescriptions and laboratory tests covered by the visit?
The CuraNow Health visit fee or insurance claim covers the professional healthcare service provided by CuraNow Health. Prescription medications, laboratory testing, imaging, and other third-party services are separate. If you use insurance, those services may be covered according to your individual health plan benefits.
Eligibility & appropriate care
What concerns are appropriate for virtual urgent care?
Virtual urgent care may be appropriate for common, non-emergency concerns such as cold, flu, respiratory, urinary, skin, eye, stomach, minor pain, and selected medication or quick-care needs. A clinician determines whether telehealth is appropriate for your situation.
When should I seek emergency care instead?
Call 911 or seek emergency care for severe or life-threatening symptoms, including chest pain, trouble breathing, signs of stroke, severe bleeding, loss of consciousness, or any emergency. Virtual care is not a substitute for emergency services.
Are CuraNow Health visits video or telephone?
CuraNow Health provides live, real-time virtual visits. Depending on your medical concern and the information needed to safely evaluate you, your visit may be conducted by video or telephone. Your healthcare provider may require video when a visual assessment is medically necessary. CuraNow Health does not provide medical treatment based solely on questionnaires, text messages, or online forms.
What conditions can CuraNow Health treat?
CuraNow Health treats many common, non-emergency health concerns that can be safely evaluated virtually. Examples may include cold, cough, congestion, sinus symptoms, seasonal allergies, sore throat, flu and COVID-related symptoms, uncomplicated UTI or yeast infection symptoms, minor rashes, eczema, pink eye and selected minor eye concerns, cold sores, mild stomach concerns, minor muscle, joint, neck, and back complaints, headaches, insect bites, selected medication refills, and other appropriate minor illnesses. Your healthcare provider will determine whether your condition can be safely evaluated and treated virtually.
What conditions should not be treated through CuraNow Health?
CuraNow Health is not an emergency medical service. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department immediately for a medical emergency, including severe or persistent chest pain, severe difficulty breathing, signs of stroke, loss of consciousness, severe or uncontrolled bleeding, severe allergic reaction, serious injury or trauma, severe abdominal pain, new severe neurological symptoms, suicidal thoughts or immediate risk of harm, pregnancy-related emergencies, or any condition requiring immediate medical attention. If your healthcare provider determines you need an in-person examination, laboratory testing, imaging, emergency evaluation, or another level of care, you will be advised where to seek appropriate care.
Can CuraNow Health prescribe medication?
Yes. When medically appropriate, your healthcare provider can electronically send prescriptions to your preferred pharmacy. A visit does not guarantee that medication will be prescribed. All prescribing decisions are based on your medical history, symptoms, clinical evaluation, professional judgment, and applicable prescribing requirements.
Does CuraNow Health prescribe controlled substances?
No. CuraNow Health does not prescribe controlled substances through its virtual urgent-care service, including opioids, benzodiazepines, stimulants, and other controlled medications.
Can I get antibiotics?
Antibiotics may be prescribed when medically appropriate. Antibiotics do not treat viral illnesses and are not appropriate for every infection or symptom. Paying for a visit does not guarantee that an antibiotic or any other medication will be prescribed.
Can CuraNow Health refill my medication?
Selected non-controlled medications may be eligible for refill after an appropriate clinical evaluation. Some medications require laboratory monitoring, an in-person examination, specialist management, or ongoing primary-care follow-up and may not be appropriate for refill through virtual urgent care. CuraNow Health does not provide controlled-substance refills.
Can you order laboratory tests?
Yes. Your healthcare provider may order laboratory testing when medically appropriate. Laboratory charges are not included in the $39 CuraNow Health visit fee and may be billed separately by the laboratory.
Can I get a work or school note?
When medically appropriate, documentation related to your CuraNow Health visit may be provided. A healthcare provider determines whether documentation is appropriate based on the clinical evaluation.
What if my condition cannot be treated virtually?
Patient safety comes first. If your healthcare provider determines that your condition cannot be safely diagnosed or treated virtually, you may be directed to an appropriate in-person setting such as your primary care provider, urgent care, emergency department, laboratory, imaging facility, or specialist.
Do I need a primary care provider?
No. You do not need a primary care provider to use CuraNow Health. However, virtual urgent care is not intended to replace an ongoing relationship with a primary care provider for routine preventive care, chronic disease management, or conditions requiring ongoing monitoring.
Is my information private?
CuraNow Health takes patient privacy seriously. Medical information should be provided only through CuraNow Health's designated secure clinical platform. Please do not submit symptoms, diagnoses, medications, medical history, photographs, laboratory results, or other medical information through general website contact forms or regular email. Please review our Privacy Policy and Notice of Privacy Practices for additional information.
How do I prepare for my virtual visit?
Before your visit, be in a private location when possible; have identification available if requested; have your current medication and allergy information available; know the name and location of your preferred pharmacy; and, if using video, make sure your camera, microphone, and internet connection are working. Be prepared to confirm that you are physically located in California. If you have a thermometer, blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter, or other relevant home-health equipment available, your provider may ask for those readings when appropriate. You are not required to purchase equipment solely for your visit unless specifically instructed.
Can I send medical information through the CuraNow Health website?
No. Please do not submit medical or clinical information through general website forms or regular email. Medical information should be entered or communicated only through CuraNow Health's designated secure clinical platform.
Where do I need to be located?
You must be physically located in California at the time of your virtual visit. You may be asked to confirm your location before your visit begins.
Still have a non-urgent question?
Use Patient Support for general, non-urgent help. Please do not send symptoms, medical records, insurance IDs, or other sensitive health information through the form.
